How in sync is your company?
NuHQ’s Sync Index measures how fast your company knowledge reaches the people and tools that need it. Six questions, about two minutes. You get a score from 0 to 100, the one constraint holding you back, and what the gap costs each year.
Take NuHQ's Sync IndexKnowledge that arrives current.
Every company runs on what it knows: policies, plans, decisions, how work gets done. Sync is how quickly and reliably that knowledge reaches everyone who needs it, in its current form.
When a company is out of sync, people search for answers, ask the same questions twice, and rebuild work that already exists. They also spend hours updating the same plan or status in several tools. Decisions take weeks to reach the people who act on them. New hires learn by trial and error.
AI makes the gap more expensive. An AI tool that can't see your company's current knowledge gives generic answers or confident wrong ones. The companies getting real value from AI are the ones that give it a single, current source of company context.
Six parts of how knowledge moves.
For each one, you pick the description that matches how things really work today, not how the policy says they should.
| Dimension | The question it asks | Out of sync looks like | In sync looks like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Finding answers | How does someone find the current answer to a work question? | Asking around, because answers live in people's heads | Answers show up in the flow of work |
| Source of truth | When two documents disagree, what happens? | Nobody knows which one is right | Content stays current from the systems of record |
| Decisions reaching people | After a policy or priority changes, how fast does everyone affected act on it? | Weeks, or never | The same day, built into workflows |
| Handoffs between teams | When work moves between teams, does the context move with it? | Every handoff starts from scratch | Context is assembled automatically |
| Getting new people up to speed | How do new hires and role changes ramp up? | Shadowing and tribal knowledge | They ask the company and get sourced answers |
| AI with company context | When people use AI at work, what does it know about your company? | Nothing, or whatever someone pasted in | One company brain feeds every AI tool |
Rate how things work today.
Nothing is preselected. Choose one description per dimension; your score appears when all six are answered. Answers stay in this browser tab.
An average,
scaled to 100.
You rate each dimension from 1 to 5. Your Sync Index is the average, scaled from 0 to 100. A company rated 1 on everything scores 0. A company rated 5 on everything scores 100. All six dimensions count equally.
Most companies score in the first two stages. That isn't a failing grade. It's where companies end up when every team picks its own tools.
| Score | Stage | What it feels like |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 19 | Siloed | Knowledge lives in people and inboxes. Work depends on knowing who to ask. |
| 20 to 39 | Documented | Things are written down, but spread across tools and often out of date. |
| 40 to 59 | Connected | There is a main place to look, and most key content has an owner. |
| 60 to 79 | Synchronized | One search returns the current answer. Changes reach the right people quickly. |
| 80 to 100 | Self-syncing | Knowledge stays current on its own and reaches people and AI tools in the flow of work. |
Where to start.
NuHQ's Sync Index also names your constraint, which is the dimension where you scored lowest. That's where to start. If several dimensions tie for lowest, we name the first in question order and list the others alongside it.
The idea comes from the Theory of Constraints: a system moves only as fast as its slowest part. If decisions take weeks to reach people, a better search tool won't fix it. If your content is out of date, giving AI access to it just spreads wrong answers faster.
Your results show what the next level up looks like for your constraint. Improve that one dimension, score again, and find the next constraint. Run NuHQ's Sync Index every quarter and you have a simple way to track progress.
Turn your score into a directional annual figure.
Add four numbers: how many employees you have, their average loaded cost per hour, and how many hours per person each week go to searching and to keeping docs and plans current. We count two kinds of lost time:
- Searching: looking for information, asking colleagues, and redoing work that already existed somewhere.
- Upkeep: updating the same plan, document or status in several places, and chasing down which version is current.
We keep the estimate conservative on purpose. Savings scale with your score: a company at 0 can recover up to 35% of that time; a company at 100 has little left to gain, about 5%. Not everyone adopts at once, so we assume 70% of employees use NuHQ weekly. Not every saved hour becomes output, so we count only half of the time returned as productive work. A working year is 48 weeks.
Adjust the assumptions
Worked example: 500 people, Sync Index of 25
| Item | Assumption | Per year |
|---|---|---|
| Time spent searching | 2 hours per person per week at $60 per hour | $2,880,000 |
| Time spent on upkeep | 1 hour per person per week at $60 per hour | $1,440,000 |
| Time NuHQ could return | 27.5% of those hours, 70% adoption, half counted as productive | $415,800 |
| Tools you could retire | Wikis, intranets and point tools NuHQ replaces | $40,000 |
You can adjust every assumption above to match your company.
One company, one brain.
NuHQ is the AI-native company HQ. Your knowledge, plans and decisions live in one connected workspace, so people and AI tools work from the same current information.
- Finding answers: ask a question and get an answer that cites its sources.
- Source of truth: NuHQ Knowledge keeps content owned, verified and current.
- Keeping things current: update a plan or decision once, and everything connected to it reflects the change.
- AI with company context: every AI feature draws on the same shared knowledge layer.
- One bill: one contract, one security review, one login in place of several tools.
An estimate is a starting point.
The real proof is how NuHQ performs with your content and your questions.
1. We migrate your content.
The NuHQ team moves one or two departments' content into a test drive workspace.
2. You run a side-by-side test.
Take 10 to 20 real questions from your HR, IT or operations teams. Time how long it takes to find each answer in your current tools, then in NuHQ.
3. You decide on your numbers.
Replace our estimate with your measured results and build a business case your leadership can trust.
About NuHQ’s Sync Index
Who should take NuHQ's Sync Index?
Start with your leadership team. Then ask a few frontline employees to take it on their own. The gap between the two scores is often the most useful finding.
Do I need to share any data?
No. NuHQ's Sync Index runs in your browser. Your answers aren't sent anywhere unless you choose to copy and share your results.
How accurate is the dollar estimate?
It's a directional estimate built on conservative assumptions you can change. The side-by-side test drive replaces it with numbers measured at your company.
What if we already have a wiki or intranet?
Most companies do, and most still score in the Siloed or Documented stage. The question isn't whether knowledge is written down. It's whether people and AI tools can find the current version when they need it.
Who created NuHQ's Sync Index?
NuHQ's Sync Index methodology was developed by Bill Mastin, CEO of NuHQ, based on years of work with HR, talent and operations teams.
